FAQs About Therapy at Alex Fuller Psychotherapy in Louisville, CO

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and you likely have many questions about the process and the approach I use at my practice, Alex Fuller Psychotherapy. This FAQ page is designed to help answer common inquiries regarding my therapy services and give you the information you need to feel confident and comfortable as you begin your journey. Whether you’re considering individual therapy, couples counseling, or parental guidance, my office in Louisville, Colorado, is here to provide support every step of the way.

Q: I’m Used to Handling Things on My Own. If I Go to Therapy, Doesn’t That Make Me Weak?

A: Not at all. Everyone needs help now and then, and knowing that you need it puts you leaps and bounds ahead of many. You already have some strengths that you’ve used before, and for whatever reason, that isn’t working right now. Perhaps this problem feels overwhelming, making it difficult to access your past strengths. In our work together, I’ll help you identify strengths and learn how to implement them again.

Q: What’s the Difference Between Talking to a Therapist and a Family Member?

A: The difference is someone who has the training and experience to speak with you on a deeper level. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way—teach new skills, gain different perspectives, and listen to you without judgment. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes negative emotions, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding a family member you previously confided in so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Q: If My Partner and I Are Having Problems, Should We Come to Therapy Together?

A: If you are concerned about your relationship, and you would both like to work with me, I would initially work with both of you together. After this, if one of you would like to continue in individual sessions, I could work with only one of you. It is not helpful to move from individual to couple’s work with the same therapist because of potential trust issues.

Q: How Long Does Therapy Typically Last?

A: The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some clients find relief after a few sessions, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and growth. It also depends on how often you see me, whether that’s weekly, monthly, or on another schedule. I would say plan on several months of regular sessions.

Q: What Services Are Available at Alex Fuller Psychotherapy?

A: I specialize in individual therapy, couples therapy, marriage counseling, premarital counseling, and parental counseling. My approach integrates evidence-based practices such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness-based therapies, and the PACT model for couples. Telehealth services are also available for individuals and couples seeking flexible therapy options.

Q: What Is PACT?

A: PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) is a highly effective model that focuses on deepening emotional and physical connections in relationships. It combines neuroscience, attachment theory, and mindfulness to help couples improve communication, resolve conflict, and build lasting intimacy.

Q: What Can I Expect From Telehealth Therapy Sessions?

A: Telehealth therapy at Alex Fuller Psychotherapy offers the same level of care as in-person sessions, with the convenience of meeting virtually from your home or office. Sessions are conducted via a secure platform, ensuring your privacy and comfort. I will work collaboratively to address your concerns and meet your therapy goals.

Q: Do You Offer In-Person Sessions?

A: Yes, I offer in-person sessions for clients in Louisville, CO. I also provide telehealth therapy for those who prefer virtual sessions or live outside the area.

Q: Do You Work With Clients Who Have Experienced Trauma?

A: Yes, I have extensive training in trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing. These methods help clients process trauma, release its impact on the body and mind, and build resilience.

Q: Why Can’t I Just Take Medication?

A: Medication can be effective, especially in conjunction with therapy. However, medication alone cannot solve all issues. What medication does is treat the symptoms. Our work together is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behavior and teach strategies that can help you accomplish your personal and/or relational goals.

Q: What Can I Do to Ensure I Get the Most Out of Therapy?

A: I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.
